PCCare Premium[TM]

I am getting a Trojan or Virus warning with the words UDP-1900, or UPNP-1900 and port protection. PCCare™ isn’t running. What do I do?

There are many more technical definitions for UDP and UDP-based Trojans.  This will serve to explain the issue for the majority of our customers.

Several Trojans utilize the UDP (User Datagram Protocol) over unregistered or little-used IP ports to send data out from your PC to a remote server.  Norton Internet Security (and other firewall/security programs) have a Trojan filter (named UDP-1900 or UPNP-1900 or Trojan-1900) that can block all local ports or specific ports (such as 1900).

The default value of several of these filters is to block all local ports.  However, the PCCare™ engine uses the local host and port 2721 to serve the web pages to the PCCare™ UI.  If the UDP-1900 filter is set for all local ports, PCCare™ will not execute.  The next steps show how to edit the filter to protect your system and allow PCCare™ to run.

The following example is for Norton Internet Security, similar screens/methods will be used for McAfee Personal Firewall, Computer Associates ezArmor and/or Microsoft Firewall.

Reboot your PC

You will be able to launch the PCCare™ UI.

f.1  Open Norton Internet Security

f.2  configure personal firewall

f.3 Advanced, general rules

f.4   general rules, UPNP Port1900 Block rule

f.5.1    modify rule, before (blocks all ports)

f.5.2  modify rule, after
